I'm appreciating this new editorial work with BMG-Chicago for Solstice Magazine, a publication dedicated to fashion and editorial photography. I just loved working with this team of creative people. Especially as we all had been under wraps for a number of months. It was great to be outside, enjoying a beautiful day and working together.
This shot was completely unexpected. I was sitting in the backseat of a vehicle, waiting to step to the next shot location when Ryan, the photographer and creative guru of the shoot, started shooting through the glass. Couldn't have planned it. The shot just happened. The light, the reflection of the trees in the glass, my expression, it all was spontaneous.
Lesson learned: Be spontaneous. You never know what beautiful action or image could result.
What's interesting about this shot is that it was completely unplanned. I was sitting in the car getting my hair and face touched up and Ryan, the photographer, was watching. He picked up his camera and started shooting through the glass. He liked the reflection of the trees on my image through the car window.
To me, that's the mark of a great artist and photographer. He or she takes advantage of those unexpected moments, the unplanned beauty that can happen at any moment in the day, photoshoot or not. We certainly didn't set up this shot; it just happened.
Happy summer, my friends. Here's to moments of unplanned beauty.
